Guide to preparing and uploading images to DPS portfolio galleries Uploading images to a website is probably a new experience for many of you and may seem a daunting prospect. I've prepared this little guide to help overcome any doubts you may have about the task in hand. I hope you find it helpful. Images for upload to the portfolio galleries should be - sRGB colour space Max width 1024p, Max height 768p Max file size 275Kb Here's what to do Converting to a new profile This is very important when images are to be viewed in a web browser eg., Internet Explorer. In order to achieve accurate colour/contrast reproduction of your images they should have the colour space sRGB. If you normally shoot in jpeg and have your camera colour space set to sRGB then you can pass by this section. Otherwise > If an image has any other profile, for example adobe RGB, you will need to convert in PhotoShop. This is a very easy process > Open image in photoshop From the ‘Edit’ menu choose ‘Convert to Profile’
A dialogue box will open > In the drop down menu locate and click on sRGB IE61966-2.1 (There's a long list of profiles but all the common ones are grouped together near the top)
Conversion options are safely left as default.t Click OK but do not save the file yet. Resizing the image Images should be no wider than 1024pixels and no higher than 768pixels From the 'Image' menu, choose > Image Size
In the lower part of the dialogue box, check the three boxes, 'Scale Styles' 'Constrain Proportions' and 'Resample Image' then from the drop down menu, choose 'Bicubic Sharper' Now, type in the pixel dimensions. In the example, the image is portrait format, so we need to think about the height. It should be no more than 768 high - so type in only the Height 768 [pixels]. For an image that is landscape format, type in only the Width 1024 and check that the number in the height box is no larger than 768..
Click OK Now, Saving an image to the required file size From the 'File' menu, choose -'Save As'
Type in your filename > From the Format menu choose, JPEG > then click Save
In the JPEG Options box, the aim is to achieve the correct file size, here circled in red. Adjust the slider until the figure reads less than 275K (The quality index, 9 in this example, may be different for your file and depends on the digital content.) All other options can be safely left at default setting. Now click OK. Your file should now be ready to upload. Uploading images to DPS portfolio gallery.
