Angy Ellis was born in Spennymoor, Co Durham and has now settled in Sunderland after a 13 year spell in Germany. A Financial Advisor by profession she now works for a UK Bank as a Sales Coach. In addition to photography Angy is passionate about Formula 1 racing. You may recognise her as she has also appeared on many UK TV game shows! Angy says, “Joining a club is a great way to learn and to enjoy your passion for photography”.
MY FAVOURITE PHOTOGRAPHERS I tend to search photographers on-line to learn something from each one and there are so many great ones but I am intrigued by the work of Robert Maplethorpe. The creative ideas and lines within his images which are mostly monochrome fascinate me. ME AND THE DPS I joined in August 2007 shortly after I was bought my first camera with a view to having photography as a serious hobby. Mavis Ord & Robin Wallace are two people I would like to especially thank for giving me advice and encouragement whenever I needed it. I did very well in year one with many images placed in competitions and winning the Fillingham Trophy. The same again in year two, winning the Valente Cup. I enthusiastically joined the committee at the start of 2009 as Treasurer. THE 3 THINGS I ENJOY MOST BEING A MEMBER OF THE DPS 1) Making so many new friends all with the same interest – there’s never a dull moment with all the different personalities. 2) The huge depth of knowledge that can be found within the club. 3) The excellent programme to keep us entertained just gets better each year. AN AMBITION (OR TWO!) To have my own work displayed and up for sale somewhere. (Quite possible). To get behind the scenes of F1, photographing the excitement of a race weekend. (Possible if Ross Brawn/Martin Whitmarsh visit this site!). THE PEARL (Advice to budding photographers) Listen to other photographers, ask questions and don’t be afraid to try anything. Having your photography appreciated is a nice feeling, take the positives from the Judges and fellow members comments and keep doing what feels right for you … Oh, and remember to pack your fully charged battery & your memory cards!
